A note on Ne and Ti as "scientific" functions

Why Ne plays such a role in scientific thinking, and why, despite the presence of other types, too, strong Ne is over-represented among various scientific pioneers?

Here are some points correlated with it:

A BROAD CURIOSITY ABOUT EVERYTHING NEW AND NOT UNDERSTOOD (because this function is drawn to hidden, unknown potentials)

1. I am strongly drawn to and excited by any mystery or novelty.

2. Hidden possibilities, mysteries, and novelty interest me more than comfort.

3. A world where everything is known, and where there is nothing left to discover or unravel, would be more terrifying to me than being confined to a wheelchair as a paraplegic.

4. Curiosity is my greatest gift.

5. I love receiving an abundance of information so I can let my imagination run wild with it.

6. My imagination constantly craves the unusual and often deliberately seeks out all kinds of paradoxes.

7. I am strongly drawn to everything new, unknown, and mysterious.

8. When I encounter something new and unusual, I always focus my attention on it and delight in unraveling its secrets until I’ve studied and understood them: during this time, I’m willing to forget about food and all other goals and tasks.

9. I am drawn to places where no human has ever set foot.

10. I am drawn to places where hidden possibilities lie.

Why is curiosity important in science? It’s probably unnecessary to explain this. It’s enough to note that an excessive amount of curiosity about the new can also be harmful to science. This is a case where yet another new stimulus can easily distract one from the previous one, supplanting and extinguishing the former interest. This is harmful in science because professional scientists are not birds that are free to flit easily from branch to branch. That is why ILE's with an enhanced lead function are also infrequent guests in science. 

ECSTATIC EXPERIENCES FROM THE FREQUENT SENSE OF DISCOVERY AND REVELATION (I’d say that Fe plays a role here, too, and indeed, Ne and Fe have a certain positive correlation, explaining some more "scientific" EIE's, too)

1. Exploring something—even if it’s only partially familiar—always fills me with joy and pleasant sensations.

2. I often experience ecstasy from the sensation of recognizing something fundamentally new.

3. I’m often inspired by the feeling that I’ve made a sudden discovery for myself, that I’ve grasped some new, fundamental, and very important idea.

4. I’m often inspired by the feeling of discovery, of comprehending something important.

5. Several times a week—or even every day—I have the feeling that I’ve suddenly discovered something worthwhile and useful.

Why do we experience the ecstasy of feeling close to a discovery and the sensation of a “revelation” bursting forth? It is a mechanism of dopamine reinforcement that fosters and sustains interest in scientific inquiry.

THE ABILITY TO QUICKLY IDENTIFY COMMON, UNIFYING FEATURES IN A SERIES OF PHENOMENA, TO FIND COMMON MECHANISMS WITHIN THEM, AND A COMMON, TYPICAL CORE (THROUGH THE ALTERNATION OF STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS WITH ASSOCIATIVE SEARCH AND THE DRAWING OF PARALLELS)

1. I easily recognize similar features in phenomena at different levels.

2. I consider it my mission to discover universal, timeless laws.

3. I have a constant, intense thirst for knowledge of fundamental laws and objective root causes.

4. I easily grasp the most essential aspects of the inner nature of any object.

5. I enjoy and am skilled at tracing common features across phenomena from different fields.

6. My imagination constantly filters out everything from the objects and phenomena I mentally examine except for a single characteristic common to all of them, and it is from this commonality that new ideas, hypotheses, and discoveries are born within me.

The ability to perceive commonalities between objects or phenomena depends on both Ti and Ne. Conversely, heightened Fi and Si (and, to some extent, Fe and Se) hinder this ability. Therefore, people with “fragmented thinking” (who are unable to see the forest for the trees and therefore believe that each tree is unique and valuable in its own right) are most often members of the Socials club. Although it occasionally happens that individual members of the SLI, LSE, and IEI also suffer from the same problem.

And here're the Ti properties:

SENSITIVITY TO LOGICAL RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN OBJECTS AND EVENTS (RELATIONSHIPS OF CO-BELONGING AND SUBORDINATION, HIERARCHY, CAUSE AND EFFECT); A HIGH CAPACITY FOR “DRY,” FORMAL LOGICAL ANALYSIS OF THE MATERIAL AT HAND

1. I possess well-organized scientific thinking.

2. I have a good command of the formal-logical laws of thought.

3. I instantly sense even the slightest logical inconsistency or structural “dissonance.”

4. By nature, I am a good logician and analyst.

5. I am always attentive to the smallest logical details.

6. I have strong analytical thinking and logical reasoning; I enjoy synthesizing facts and have a good grasp of diagrams, classifications, and structures.

7. My logic is “ironclad”; I never confuse cause and effect in my conclusions.

8. When making decisions, I am almost always guided by sound judgment and scientific knowledge.

9. It sometimes seems to me that everything around me lacks logic and reason in its sequence of actions, whereas I possess a strategic sense of correct logical sequence and perspective.

10. I love all kinds of structural diagrams and enjoy examining them.

This trait is characterized by high Ti and low Fi. It is also associated with a general heightened rationality.

Rational Ti analysis is essential for virtually all types and fields of scientific activity. Moreover, there are even such narrow scientific fields where one can get by using only Ti, with almost no recourse to intuitive possibilities (or, as a last resort, by borrowing a few ideas from others and then refining them to precision perfection). Such scientific fields are few, but they do exist, and they offer opportunities not only for Alfa scientists but also for logiclas of the second quadra — LSI and SLE.

ABILITY TO IDENTIFY WHAT IS ESSENTIAL AND DISCARD WHAT IS SECONDARY (IDENTIFYING THE STRUCTURAL HIERARCHY OF THE ELEMENTS OF A WHOLE)

1. In my line of work, I am better than most at identifying what is most important while discarding unnecessary, insignificant details.

2. I can clearly explain the essence of any phenomenon in just a few sentences.

3. I am good at identifying what is essential and filtering out what is secondary in the material I am analyzing.

4. In my work, I easily distinguish the main points from the secondary ones and never get bogged down in trivialities.

5. I am able to focus my attention entirely on the key information and main issues, while ignoring everything that is of little significance.

6. In a debate or discussion, I always identify the main logical arguments and the secondary ones, to which I pay very little attention.

This trait is, in essence, a special case of the previous one, which is related to broader logical-analytical skills. But the ability to “cut out the unnecessary” is indeed one of the most important and necessary logical skills in the field of science, although sometimes it can throw the baby out with the bathwater. Note that Ne does not help this skill; rather, it hinders it. In those scientific fields where flexible openness to intuitive ideas is important — where it is crucial to explore and search through numerous theoretical options — the excessive strength of this trait more often proves harmful than helpful.

ERUDITION is also important in science, and, by Talanov's tables, is associated more with Ti than Te, although Te egos are no slouches in this, either.
